7 do-able New Years Resolutions: 2021

Updated: May 16, 2022

Thankfully, 2020 is in the past. Although there are many struggles we are still facing, we still can go into 2021 with positive vibes.

Resolutions don't have to be painful. And you definitely don't have to think "new year, new me" in your head every year. That's not healthy! Instead, think "new year, same me-- just more motivated."

Personally, I never stick to new habits long term if I plan out a long strict schedule, or because of I am not happy with something in my life. Easing into new habits because you love yourself will help you be the best person you can be-- without doing it for the wrong reasons.

Scroll down for 7 New Years Resolutions that you can work on at any time during the year to improve your already amazing life!!

1. Work on Your Mental "Glow Up"

"Glow Ups" don't have to be your physical appearance. You don't have to lose a lot of weight, make a drastic change to your hair, or completely update your wardrobe to become a "different" person. (I use quotes around different because I want to highlight that the goal shouldn't be to change yourself completely.) Change the way you speak to yourself and do things that help your mind. You should want to keep the roots of who you are, love them, and then grow from there!

2. Eat Healthier

I specifically did not want to put "diet" as a resolution because once again, such a strict label with a dreadful connotation will make you less likely to stick to it in the long run! Eating healthier has sooo many benefits. It is also really fun to look up yummy recipes on Pinterest and take trendy pics of your plated masterpiece for your Instagram story.

3. Work on Speaking Up for Yourself

In this day and age, it is SO easy (too easy) to be shut down by what the majority (or what seems like the majority) thinks. My motto I adapted in 2020 was "get what you need out of life." And I am keeping that for the rest of my life. It is okay and important to be yourself and stand up for what you believe-- whether that is political or over something silly. As long as you are being kind and respectful, do not let others push you around!

4. Stop Using Profanity

I won't get into this one too much! Even though swearing does have some psychological health benefits, I personally feel better when I listen to cleaner music and watch my mouth.

5. Start a New Social Media Account to Advocate for Something You Love-- Positivity, Art, etc.

This one is something fun and lighthearted but can go along way. I started a couple new Instagram accounts over quarantine. One for displaying my pictures of my Polaroid prints and another for advocating kindness/ gratitude in my town during the initial outbreak of COVID-19. At the end of the day, the internet is the way of the world, why not do something you enjoy!

6. Shift Your Priorities

This resolution is very vague-- but very important. I don't want to feed you what your priorities should be, but taking some time to self reflect and understand your own values are essential to making the most of your future! Take a step back and think about what really is important to you. This could be family, friends, God, education, a hobby, your health. Think about this. It will help you live your life to your fullest!

7. Spend Less Time on Your Phone

Look at your screen time in settings on your devices. Now add up the hours you've spent on social media and think about the amount of DAYS you have wasted on your phone. Of course like I said before, technology is the way of life these days, and there are definitely productive things you can do on social media. But, cutting back on this toxic addiction of scrolling/tapping is also a great addition to your list of resolutions. Instead, go for a quick walk, do a quick workout, clean your room/house, or do that thing you've been procrastinating since 2020.
